Purple Star School – Supporting Military Families
South County High School is honored to be a Purple Star School, a recognition we proudly hold for our dedication to supporting military-connected students and families. Our Military Family Life Counselor offers personalized support to ensure our military students thrive academically and emotionally, helping them feel at home no matter where they come from.
Outstanding Academic Achievements
Our commitment to academic excellence is reflected in our 94% SOL pass rate, including an impressive 94% pass rate for English Reading and Writing, and a 90% pass rate for Algebra 1. Additionally, South County students shine on the national stage, with National Merit Scholarship Commended Recognition and top accolades from DECA, including International Career Development Awards and both State and International recognitions.
Unique and Innovative Programs
We are proud to offer a wide range of unique programs that prepare students for the future. Our DODEA Code UP! initiative offers five years of STEAM and Computer Science achievement, giving students the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving world. We also offer Autotech Client Services for staff and community, a student-run service that provides real-world experience in the automotive industry.
Student Leadership and Extracurricular Excellence
South County offers a wealth of opportunities for student involvement. From the Best Buddies Program to Key Club, our students are encouraged to lead and serve the community. Our Student Government Association fosters leadership, while our National Honor Society and Tales for Tots programs help students give back to local schools and organizations.
Athletic Excellence – Champions Across the Board
Our athletes excel in a wide range of sports. South County’s Girls' Track team is a three-time state winner, and the Boys Basketball team is a two-time state champion. We’ve also seen success in Football, Girl's Soccer, Softball, and Crew, with our Crew team achieving national recognition and being nationally ranked. South County’s athletic teams embody our school spirit and commitment to excellence!
Staff and Alumni Recognition and Accomplishments
Our teachers and staff are the heart of South County’s success. We're proud to have Lucy Blesi, named FCPS 2023 Region 4 Outstanding Secondary School New Teacher, and Dr. Kambar Khoshaba, who was honored as VA State Principal of the Year in 2021. We also celebrate former athletes who’ve gone on to national success, such as Oren Burks, a current NFL player, Olympic gold medalist Trevor Stewart, and Andi Sullivan, a professional soccer player. Their stories inspire our students to dream big and achieve greatness.
Arts and Music – A Tradition of Excellence
South County is home to award-winning Band, Choir, and Orchestra programs, including a Blue Ribbon Award and numerous Honor Band State Championships. Our Musician All-State recipients and National Scholastic Art Awards winners showcase the artistic talent fostered here, while our One Act Play team and TSA students have earned state championships. Whether it’s music, theater, or the visual arts, South County students shine.

Our Jostens Renaissance Program and Stallion Ambassadors work to ensure new students and families feel supported from day one. Over the past two decades, we’ve built a legacy of academic success, athletic achievement, and community involvement.
