Once again, Señora Doris Straughn and her Spanish students did an outstanding job decorating our school to celebrate the great contributions of individuals of Hispanic Heritage to our country and their communities. Beautiful posters of individuals of Hispanic Heritage (and their biographies and/or quotes) were hung throughout the school - a vast representation of community leaders, entertainers, political leaders, artists, athletes, and more. In addition, flags from all Spanish speaking countries, featuring a QR code to learn more about the country, were hung in the World Languages hallways. Colorful decorations hung from the ceiling and around doorways greeting our visitors as they entered our building; staff and students also felt the warmth and festive spirit as they walked through the hallways of SCHS. It was also exciting to hear the morning announcements which  included valuable facts about the individuals that our students encountered pictured in our hallways.

Students who gave their time to decorate gave great care with hanging decorations and even stayed after school on some days to ensure that the school was ready to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Señora Straughn and the World Languages department are a true gem at South County High School and we appreciate them as they open our eyes to not only varied languages but also beautiful cultures beyond our borders.
