Spanish students,  Citiana Ali and Aaliya Merchant interned in the Children’s Science Center’s Latina SciGirls, a program that helps Latina girls experience STEM topics through experiences.  The mentors and the young girls spent Friday nights for three months with hands-on activities related to buoyancy, animal sciences and space pollution.  The experiences were amazing, and Citiana and Aaliya discovered they had to mentor in Spanish because the girls were all more comfortable with their instructions in this language. According to Citiana, “I was forced to practice speaking and listening in a real life setting." By the end of the program, I could confidently say my Spanish conversational abilities had improved.”
